I haven’t been updating my website for a while now – I just have a lot on my plate. There’s so much to talk about but I’ll start with the 195 days of code challenge I managed to complete (I even surprised myself).
The last time I tried to participate in a 100-day of code challenge, I stopped at day 35. Then I decided to start over with HTML and CSS, but I stopped (again).
On the 1st of January 2022, I saw this tweet from Ivy Barley:
I have always wanted to learn React and I struggled with it during a hackathon. I thought to myself, maybe another challenge will help me stay focused and if I documented the challenge, I’ll be more inclined to keep going – well I was right. I initially planned to do this for 100 days but I managed to go for an extra 95 days.
I promised myself to be transparent with people. I did not want to paint a picture like I had it all together – when I did not. I missed some days due to work, tiredness, lights out (aka power outage) and life just being mean to me (as usual).
During this challenge, I managed two jobs – one full-time and another part-time so you can imagine how hard it was to stay consistent. I did not want to give up and I’m glad I pushed through.
The wonderful thing about failure, is you learn more about yourself. I knew that if I jumped straight to React, I’ll get confused and overwhelmed so I decided to ease into things by revising the fundamentals – HTML, CSS, and JS. This allowed me to build momentum.
I built some cool projects but I still haven’t finished the UI design and implementation of a mental health project π. Designing in public made me more anxious so I just put a stop to it and continued with the challenge.
I don’t want to type too much (feeling lazy). Here’s a link to my Twitter thread – enjoy π
Day 1 – 52
Day 53 – 100
Day 101 – 195
