The Backstory
After leaving the gaming industry in 2024, I started to wonder if I had made the right choice. I asked myself, “If I’m old and I look back at my life, will I be proud of this decision?” and the answer is no. I would not be proud of giving up something that has fascinated me since I was a child. I made a decision to get back to gaming, but on my own terms. Make my own games. Decide on the creative direction. And just enjoy the outcome. If it works out, awesome. If it doesn’t, we move.
Due to financial challenges, I can’t afford courses as I used to, plus the Cedi to USD exchange rates make things a pain. Not wanting to give up, I gathered tutorials on YouTube and started practicing game development again.
A New Opportunity
While on LinkedIn, I saw a repost from Africacomicade about a Game Development Career Accelerator Scholarship by Dominion Eromosele, in partnership with Udemy. To me, this was a perfect opportunity to get the skills I needed. One thing I love about courses is the structure, as I tend to get distracted easily. With a day left for applications, I submitted my application and hoped for the best.
You’re in!
After waiting for what felt like eternity, I got an email on September 2nd, 2025, saying I had been picked. It made my day brighter and honestly, I had been stalking Dominion’s socials 😂 . Checking to see if the program had started. Not only do I feel gratitude but I feel blessed to have seen this opportunity.
I will drop updates on my progress. So far, it’s been amazing and I’ve learned a lot about game design. I can’t wait to build my first commercial game.
