On the 1st of February, I was reading an article on Techcabal and saw three startups focusing on maternal health. Decided to check them out and they have similar features to Sarai. I swear my heart sank and for a moment I said to myself – “it is finished!”.
Honestly, I felt defeated. Lack of money is truly a problem – you’ll just watch people execute your ideas. I had never heard of them before and in my head, “which kind wahala be this? It will look like I copied their ideas”.
I just had to google “what to do when someone has a similar product as yours”, and then I found this useful QnA on CoFoundersLab. It made me feel better to an extent.
There is nothing like that in the Ghanaian market so I have to be serious.
It helps to know that I am on the right track with Sarai. All that’s needed is consistency, discipline, and money. I look forward to the future.
Do not worry, I will stick to the original plan. I might make minor changes….we’ll see 🙂
Yeah in case you were wondering about the features, I’ll list them here:
- Ecommerce store for moms
- Pregnancy tracker
- Downloadable guides
- Events and Resources
- ….
Startups are Mumspring and BabyBlissGroup.
Competitor aside, I am glad to see others tackle the issue of maternal mortality. We need all hands on deck to make a difference.
